Dr NM van der Berg was born and raised in Ceres, the Western Cape.
His passion for the medical field was sparked early, while spending time at his dad’s medical practice in Ceres.
Following in his dad’s footsteps, he completed his MBCHB at the University of Cape Town.
He did his internship at Addington Hospital, Durban, where he met his wife, a fellow intern at the time.
He moved back to the Western Cape for his Community Service, which he did at Worcester Hospital. Following that, he worked at Khayelitsha Hospital for a year gaining great experience in trauma. His passion for orthopaedics was fueled and his path set.
He joined the orthopaedic registrar programme in Durban, rotating though the various Durban hospitals during this four year period.
After obtaining his FC Ortho, from the College of Medicine South Africa, Mmed Ortho (UKZN) and CIME (ABIME), he became a consultant at Stanger Hospital and later King Edward VIII Hospital, Durban.
Always wanting to raise his family in a small town, like he was raised, he decided to move to Richards Bay when the opportunity presented itself.
